Mandate

The Canadian Journal of Counselling is the official journal of the Canadian Counselling Asociation. Articles are published that are of interest to counsellor educators as well as to practitioners working in schools, community agencies, university and college counselling centres, and other institutions in which psychological counselling is practiced. We welcome articles dealing with: The Editor will be pleased to consider brief rebuttals to articles or brief commentaries (perhaps only a page or two) on issues of immediate relevance to this profession.

Publishing Policy

Review and editorial decisions are made upon completion of a blind review process. Reviewers' comments contribute to editorial decision-making, and provide useful suggestions for manuscript revisions. Authors are advised not to submit to this journal any manuscript that is concurrently under consideration by another journal, and not to submit a manuscript that has been published in whole or in substantial part in another journal.

All manuscripts published in the Journal are copyrighted. Persons wishing to copy beyond "fair use" must seek permission of the Editor.

The Journal is published quarterly by the Canadian Counselling Association in January, April, July, and October. The Journal is published with grant support from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada.

Advertisements In the Journal

The Canadian Journal of Counselling (CJC) is the official journal of the Canadian Counselling Association (CCA). It is a bilingual journal with a mandate to publish scholarly manuscripts that are of interest to counsellor educators, as well as practitioners working in schools, community agencies, university and college counselling centres, other institutions where psychological counselling is practiced, and private practice. CJC is distributed both nationally and internationally, with a total circulation of approximately 2100. The publication of any advertisement by CCA is neither an endorsement of the advertiser, or of the products or services advertised. CCA is not responsible for any claim(s) made in an advertisement. Advertisers may not, without prior consent, incorporate in a subsequent advertisement, the fact that a product or service had been advertised in a CCA publication. The acceptability of an advertisement for publication is based upon legal, social, professional, and ethical considerations. CCA reserves the right to unilaterally reject, omit, or cancel any advertising that it considers to be not in the best interest of these considerations. Issues are published four times a year: January, April, July, and October. Material for an advertisement must be received at least two months prior to the issue in which the advertisement is to appear. Later requests will be considered for particular issues, but guarantees for these requests cannot be given.

Style Guide

Manuscript Style. Authors should prepare manuscripts according to the fifth edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (2001). Full-length articles should not exceed 18 pages of double-spaced, typewritten copy excluding title page, abstract, references, tables, and figures. Fieldwork manuscripts are intended to report on innovative practices, techniques, or programs or to critically discuss current issues of particular interest to the practitioner. Emphasis is on application and attention should be given to related literature. Manuscripts are not to exceed 14 pages of double-spaced, typewritten copy. Brief reports should not exceed 10 pages of double-spaced, typewritten copy. All manuscripts should have at least one-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides. The size of the font should be 12 points.

Abstracts. Two abstracts, one in French and one in English must accompany each manuscript or brief report. Abstracts should not exceed 100 words in length. Authors submitting an abstract in one language will be billed $50.00 Cdn upon acceptance, payable to Editor, Canadian Journal of Counselling, to pay for translation.

Cover Sheets. For each copy of the manuscript submitted, authors should include a cover sheet that shows the title of the manuscript, the authors' names and institutional affiliations, and the date of manuscript submission. Authors not affiliated with an institution should provide current addresses in full. The author's name and address to whom reprint requests are to be addressed should also be included. Also, include FAX number and email address for possible communication from the Journal regarding the manuscript.

Biographical Notes. On a separate page at the end of the manuscript, please include 3 or 4 lines about each of the authors, including titles and relevant practical/research interests.

Review and Editorial Decision. All articles are submitted to blind review. Reviewer's comments contribute to editorial decision whether or not to publish and provide useful suggestions for manuscript revisions.
Authors are advised not to submit any manuscript which is concurrently under consideration by another journal; not to submit a manuscript which ha been published in whole or in substantial part in another journal.

Accepted Manuscripts. Authors whose manuscripts are accepted for publication must provide two hard copies and an electronic copy of the text in a recent version of Word or WordPerfect to the Editor managing the manuscript. All tables should be included at the end of this file, but figures should be saved as separate labeled files (for example, "Authorname Fig1.tiff "or "Authorname Fig2.pdf" or "Authorname Fig3. eps") in one of the following formats: 1) TIFF files 2) PDF files, or 3) EPS files. All figure files must be at least 300 dpi and have all fonts embedded. If a figure cannot be submitted electronically, please ensure the paper copy is of high quality, as per APA guidelines. All figures should be sized to fit within the journal's finished page size of 4.75" x 7.25".
